Book your guided snorkelling excursion to Tavolara online

A half-day guided snorkelling excursion to Tavolara within the Protected Marine Area of Tavolara and Punta Coda Cavallo. During the excursion, depending on weather conditions, we will visit the wreck of the ship Chrisso in Porto San Paolo swimming in the company of dozens of fish at the natural pools of the island of Molara, contemplating the sheer cliff face of the island of Tavolara.

For the excursion to Tavolara with departure from Golfo Aranci a stop with disembarkation on the island is also planned.

During the stop on the island you could see some interesting place: Cala TramontanaPunta Spalmatore and the small graveyard of the King of Tavolara undoubtedly fascinating.

During the walk you can also spot peculiar flora and fauna of the island, and some endemic species. The limestone is predominant and the pleasant smell characteristic of the mediterranean vegetation completes the visit.

Attention
The points of interest during the tour are variable in relation to the marine weather conditions. The commander will illustrate the best route for the day.

Navigation

After checking in, we will board the dinghy and sail to the Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo Protected Marine Area. The excursion to Tavolara starts here

A suggestive navigation where it is possible to admire the coast and the beaches of Olbia.

Capo Ceraso

Capo Ceraso is the promontory that delimits the beginning of the Tavolara MPA to the north, and the Gulf of Olbia to the south. On the top of the promontory there is a fort overlooking the island of Tavolara.

This strip of land is characterized by wild and unspoiled nature and has small coves of very white sand. The beaches at the end of Capo Ceraso are generally uncrowded and difficult to reach from land. Among these of particular interest is the Spiaggia del Dottore, a very coveted bay with water that has breathtaking colors

The Wreck of the Chrisso

The wreck of the Chrisso is a famous point of interest in the Tavolara Marine Protected Area, a popular destination for snorkelling, freediving and photography enthusiasts. It is a cargo ship flying the Cypriot flag that ran aground during a storm in the mid-1970s in the waters off Porto San Paolo.

Today, the entirely submerged wreck offers hospitality to a multitude of animals - damselfish, salps, bream, groupers, moray eels, small nudibranchs - which can be admired in a truly unique, picturesque environment. The wreck is located in a particularly exposed area of sea, so it is not always possible to stop there.

Molara

Molara is a granite island of particular relevance from a naturalistic point of view due to the luxuriant and uncontaminated flora that covers it.

The island of Molara is entirely private and is an integral part of the Marine Protected Area. It is famous for a stretch of sea with particularly blue water and a shallow seabed of very fine sand.

The natural pools of Molara are populated by sea breams, damselfishes and white breams which are the protagonists of snorkelling at the Molara pools.

Tavolara*
*the stop with disembarkation in Tavolara takes place exclusively for departures from Golfo Aranci

Tavolara is a parallelepiped-shaped massif with a prevalence of limestone. The island is formally divided into two parts: to the east where the military base is located, to the west where the part that can be visited is located.

On the island there are Cala Tramontana, Spalmatore di Terra and the very small inhabited center with small landing places for boats. The island is characterized by the enveloping and intoxicating scent of the Mediterranean scrub that covers it.

We love the sea, Sardinia and Tavolara. Taking part in an excursion to Tavolara with our dinghies means discovering the poetry of this territory, so ancient and so wonderful. In fact, it is no coincidence that for more than twenty years, 15,000 hectares between Olbia, Loiri Porto San Paolo and San Teodoro have been part of the Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo Protected Marine Area natural park, which protects a huge variety of native species that would otherwise be lost forever 💗

The DST Sardegna team carries out snorkelling excursions in the Tavolara Protected Marine Area with its qualified operators, following an eco-friendly code of conduct that respects the sea and its inhabitants.

the territory

The Marine Protected Area of Tavolara

The Marine Protected Area of Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo – located on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia – was established in 2003 and extends between the territories of the municipalities of Olbia, Loiri Porto San Paolo and San Teodoro.

The MPA was created with the aim of protecting, preserving and protecting the area. Another important intention is to publicise the ecological importance of the area. In order to preserve the area, a differentiation of zones was introduced, with different rules and the possibility of carrying out or not carrying out human activities. Excursions to Tavolara, for snorkelling and diving, are therefore regulated.

Zone A is an integral reserve area: an area that cannot be visited where protection and research activities are carried out

Zone B is a general reserve area where certain activities such as diving and snorkelling are permitted

Zone C is a general reserve area where the regulation is less restrictive and even small fishing activities are allowed for authorized fishermen

DST Sardegna is a diving center authorized to operate in a Marine Protected Area, the snorkelling activity is conducted in full compliance with the legislation.
